My (Tyler) piece is based on arachnophobia. I selected this concept to let me experiment with a visual style rather than researching an interesting topic. I’d argue its a bit of a cop-out because its the first fear/phobia people think of.
The style I wanted to imitate was based on Legend of Zelda Majoras Mask (the artwork) along with various other works (I believe Soul Eater uses this style) it primarily focuses on think black shadows that almost mask the color of the figures. I’ve always found the style intriguing but never gave it a try. I feel as though I should experiment as much as possible right now as I am learning to handle a drawing tablet. I’d also like to separate my pen-tool art from my illustrations.
I think it was a good first attempt, and I’m looking forward to working with the style more.
